Design Requirements
- No castings required.
- All turning can be done on a 9 inch lathe.
- Ball and needle bearings are used on all rotating shafts.
- The finished engine must have the appearance and proportions of a True Marine Column Engine.
This engine is an up-dated version of Engine # 1 incorporating many design improvements.
The Engine has a cylinder made from a cast iron block. The cylinder is lagged with wood held
on with brass bands. Upper and Lower cylinder drains are provided with piping down to the
engine base.
The crosshead bearing is a needle bearing and it is provided with an internal
passage so that it can be lubricated using a small Grease Gun designed for lubricating the
nose sprocket on chain saw blades.
An oil box is provided with a hinged lid which houses the wick feed oiling to the crosshead
guides.
The Feedwater pump-is driven from the crosshead and is a .250 inch Dia. Stainless Steel rod.
The check valves are Stainless Steel Balls which are readily accessible and the lift can be
controlled for quiet operation.
A large Crank-Disk is used to provide-a well balanced engine. Steam passages are direct and
of adequate size.
The Reverse Lever is provided with four notches for linking up.
